In
January, MFI landed N300MF, one of our radial-engine DC-3's, in Nassau with a
rough running engine. An inspection
revealed that the engine was failing internally, so it was removed, and MFI
began the process of waiting for our spare engine from the overhaul shop. Because of some technical difficulties, we
never did receive our overhauled engine.Â
Instead, we purchased another engine for $60,000 and sent it to the
Bahamas, to rescue our DC-3 before a hurricane found it. We are thankful that N300MF is home safely
and being returned to mission service.Â
Please pray that our spare radial engine will eventually be returned to
MFI. The past 6 months of waiting for a
replacement radial engine has revealed the urgency of obtaining another turbine
DC-3. Parts are much easier to obtain
for the Pratt & Whitney PT6A-65AR turbine engines, which are still in
production and widely used on a variety of aircraft.
The photos below tell the story of the return of N300MF, from preparing it for a new engine, transporting and installing the replacement engine, and flying N300MF back home.
