On the morning of Wednesday, March 27, 2019, Missionary Flights received news of the passing of Leslye Stone. In March 2018, Leslye began working as MFI’s reservationist. During her time at MFI, she established strong relationships with many of our missionaries and those organizations that we serve. Her love for providing logistical support in reservations was evident in the office. She was happy to see flights off in the mornings and often greeted flights when they returned back to the States. On one such occasion, we recall Leslye telling us that she waited in her car to make sure that a passenger had a ride to the hotel from the Customs Office.
In November 2018, she began her battle with pancreatic cancer. From that time until March 2019, she and her husband, Rodger, traveled to various treatment centers. We know that during this time, Leslye and Rodger fought hard to keep a perspective focused on heaven. Her final departure home serves as a time of immense sadness, but also a time of rejoicing as she leaves the suffering of this life behind.
Leslye was a 13-year member of the Guilderland Center Fire Department in Guilderland, NY, and was the only female firefighter in the Department to be honored as Firefighter of the Year in 2000, 2002, and 2006. She was also named Albany County’s First Female Firefighter of the Year in 2004. She worked as an E.M.T. in Altamont and Westmere.
A gathering of remembrance was held on Wednesday, April 3, at the Guilderland Center Fire House. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution in her honor to the Guilderland Center Fire Department, P.O. Box 112, Guilderland Center, NY 12085.
