Mowery Family

In 2010, Tod began volunteering at Missionary Flights, shortly after the massive earthquake that hit Port-au-Prince, Haiti.  For over a year he volunteered with Dick Snook every Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30 a.m. to assist with passengers and cargo headed out on one of our MFI flights.  After watching his passion for missions, coupled with his varied aviation and management background, he was asked to become an MFI board member.  In December of 2016, MFI President Joe Karabensch asked for Tod to consider assisting in a staff capacity and to take on the role of Executive Vice-President here at MFI.

Tod grew up in Rochester NY, near Lake Ontario and his family has a strong legacy in ministry.  During college, Tod spent time serving as a short term missionary in Zambia Africa and spent time living in Geneva Switzerland coordinating with the UN and other agencies.  He met his wife Deborah in college and the two married one week after graduating. Over the years they spent time in Ohio, Tennessee, Michigan and now Florida, where they have lived for the past 12 years. Deborah served 8 years in the U.S. Army as a combat medic and is a local elementary school teacher at a private Christian school. They home schooled their 2 children, Gabriella and Taggert, for several years before putting both of them into Christian school.

Tod currently serves as an elected official here in St. Lucie County, and is the Vice Chair of the County Board of Commissioners. Tod regularly leads teams into Haiti and has taken 32 teams on personal trips into most every part of the country. His language skills, both French and Creole, add to his abilities both here at MFI and on the mission field.  He is also a licensed pilot and has served as both a city manager in 3 cities and an airport manager. Together, he and his wife have remained active in their local church,  where they directed the children’s ministry for many years and Tod served as a Deacon. Tod has a bachelor's degree in business management and a master's degree in urban and regional planning from the University of Tennessee.

Looking back, Tod first met Dick Snook around 2000 in Grand Rapids, Michigan at the airport when they were each getting ready to fly their respective planes out. Little did they know God would bring Tod to St. Lucie County and then reunite he and Dick after the earthquake.  God definitely works in miraculous ways and always has a plan.
