Director, Human Resources
Position Summary:
The HR Specialist will manage and enhance the organization’s HR functions to ensure a positive, productive, and compliant work environment. This includes overseeing recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, benefits administration, and legal compliance.
As a key part of the team, the HR Specialist will collaborate with leadership to align HR practices with the organization’s mission and values. The ideal candidate will have a strong HR background, excellent interpersonal skills, and a passion for fostering a supportive workplace culture in a non-profit setting.
** This is a self-supporting position, meaning it is not a paid role. Staff members interested in this position will need to raise their own support from friends, family, churches, and communities in order to work for MFI.
Essential Functions
- Manage the recruitment process, including job postings, candidate screening, interviews, and onboarding.
- Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and leave policies.
- Handle employee relations issues, providing guidance and support to both employees and management.
- Oversee performance management processes, including goal setting, evaluations, and professional development.
- Ensure compliance with labor laws and regulations, maintaining accurate records and staying updated on legal requirements.
- Develop and implement HR policies and procedures that align with the organization’s mission and values.
- Coordinate training and development programs to enhance staff skills and organizational effectiveness.
- Support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within the organization.
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and HR documentation.
- Assist in the development and execution of strategies to improve employee engagement and retention.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience in human resources, preferably within a non-profit organization.
- Strong knowledge of HR best practices, labor laws, and employee relations.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
- Proficiency in HR software and systems.
- Commitment to the mission and values of the organization.
