MFI Aviation Internship Program

Program Information

Missionary Flights International volunteer Internship program for students in 11th and 12th grades.

The program will Start on September 1, 2025, 1PM. and will end on June 5, 2025

This program is strictly on a volunteer basis.

Any student in the 11th. and 12th. grade can volunteer for this program.


What students can expect in the first week

The intern will start on day one taking a tour of the facility and meeting with staff.

Day 2 the intern will be introduced to a mechanic which he or she will be assigned too.

Day3 the intern will be introduced to the facility and what is expected of them.


Days and hours

The program will be three days a week Monday, Wednesday, Friday, from 1pm to 4:30 pm for a total of ten and a half hours per week. The students will be off for holidays and spring break.


What students need to bring

It will be up to the student to take notes and ask questions of the mechanic he or she is assigned to. So, students should bring a note pad and pen and pencil.


What to wear while at MFI

No open toe shoes or sandals, work shoes or sneakers are ok. You can wear modest shorts, or long pants, just remember that at some point you will get dirty or greasy.


Student behavior while at Missionary Flights

No student will be allowed on a plane without the instructor being with them.

All students will have to sign a code of conduct and adhere to its policy. There will be no phone use while working on the plane. This is for safety reasons


Needed Tools while working on the plane

Tools recommended for an intern:

  • ¼”wratchet
  • ¼” 12 point (sae) sockets 5/32”-9/16”
  • ¼” 2” extension
  • ¼” 6” extension
  • ¼” universal joint
  • #1 Phillips screwdriver
  • #2 Phillips screwdriver
  • ¼” slotted/flathead screwdriver
  • 5/16” slotted/flathead screwdriver
  • 12 point (sae) combination wrenches ¼”-1”
  • safety wire pliers
  • needle nose pliers
  • channel lock pliers
  • pliers
  • 6” diagonal cutters
  • 6” steel ruler
  • flashlight (D cell or equivalent)
  • 2” square or rectangular inspection mirror
  • Feeler gauges .0015-.035
  • 8oz. or 12oz. BALLPEEN hammer
  • Hearing protection
  • Eye protection
  • Close toed shoes
  • If the student cannot afford these tools, I do have a toolbox with these tools they can borrow.

What number of students will be picked

Two students will be picked from the applicants for the school year 2025.

The student will have to supply their attendance record, along with their grades

In order to be considered.


What can a student expect to gain from this program

The program would show the students different facets of repairing the plane and doing routine maintenance. It would also show the students preflight day preparation.

Students would get to know different parts of the airplane and become familiar with the different aspects and how planes function.


The student will work with different departments for an understanding of MFI

The student would get to work with the load master showing how the plane is loaded with cargo and how the seats and cargo nets are installed.

The student would get to work with the reservationists to see how flights are scheduled.


What happens at the end of the program

At the completion of the program the student would receive a certificate of completion.
